While there is a train in these photos, I think those amazing clouds are really the subject here. BNSF 4716, sporting the warbonnet livery, leads a mixed freight consist out of Wyoming towards Montana. Taken at Sheridan WY a couple days ago, just before sunset.
A trio of 4-8-4 “Northern” steam locomotives built in the shops of the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad in Burlington, Iowa. They were built around 1940 and were in service through the mid-1950’s.
